Oregon is a brand new member of the Big Ten Conference after spending years in the Pac-12. Conference members were not really familiar with them, while folks in Eugene had quite a lot to learn about the Big Ten. So there was nobody better to scout the conference out than the program’s mascot, the Oregon Duck.

Over the past few weeks, the Duck would post photos from different Big Ten football stadiums, mainly asking to be let in. His journey began at Nebraska on July 30, slowly making his way out East to Rutgers on Aug. 10. Before getting back to Eugene, stops were made on the West Coast to visit the familiar Pac-12 schools.

Except for one school… There was no trip across the border to visit Seattle and the hated Washington Huskies. A petty move from the mascot and one Duck fans will love on social media.

On Wednesday, the Oregon Duck finally returned home and is at Autzen Stadium. Just in time for the season opener against Idaho, scheduled for Saturday evening. The Duck is back home after doing some summer traveling!

Oregon will spend its first three weeks of the regular season playing nonconference foes, including a familiar face. In-state rival Oregon State will come to town for the first Civil War taking place in the month of September ever. The previously earliest meeting took place in 1945 on Oct. 13.

UCLA will officially be the first Big Ten game for both schools, although there have been plenty of meetings. Michigan State is when the newness will kick in, taking place on Oct. 4. A few weeks later, a road trip to Purdue will also be a special occasion.

And lucky for the Oregon Duck, no trip to Seattle will be required. Oregon will host Washington this year in the regular season finale. There is certainly no love lost between those two, especially after how the 2023 matchup finished.

Until Nov. 30, there are plenty of other games to worry about. A nice vacation for the mascot but he seems thrilled to be back home and ready to cheer on the team.
