Oregon State athletic director Scott Barnes releases statement on Josh Griffis status with team
Oregon State defensive lineman Josh Griffis is no longer with the Beavers’ program, according to multiple reports.
It has since been confirmed by Oregon State althetic director Scott Barnes, who has since issued a statement on the matter.
“Josh Griffis is not currently participating in Oregon State football team activites,” the statement read. “Student privacy laws prevent OSU from disclosing additonal information related to any individual student athlete’s protected educational information. The OSU Department of Athletics reaffirms that all student athletes have a responsibility to adhere to team, department, and university standards, expectations, and policies.”
Griffis began his collegiate career with Florida State before moving on to Garden City CC, Jackson State and most recently Tarleton State. He did not play a snap for the Beavers, however, he did participate in camp with Oregon State this fall.
Last season, he had five sacks to go with 8.5 tackles for loss last season at Tarleton State.
While Griffis’ future status with the Beavers’ program is up in the air — one Oregon State football player found out his fate for the 2024 season.

Gevani McCoy was announced to be the Beavers’ starting quarterback for the 2024 season by head coach Trent Bray on Monday. McCoy, entering his fourth season in college football, transferred into the Oregon State program from Idaho.

“It was real close in fall camp,” Bray said. “Just kind of the last wek, Gevani was on a big uptick. Separated himself a little bit and that’s what led to the decision.”
He beat out Ben Gulbranson and Gabarri Johnson. On the Beavers’ official depth chart, Gulbranson will serve as McCoy’s backup to begin the year.
McCoy will replace last year’s starter, DJ Uiagalelei, who has since transferred to Florida State. His debut came against Georgia Tech in Dublin during Week 0, where the Seminoles fell to Brent Key’s Yellow Jackets 24-21 on a game-winning field goal as time expired.
For Oregon State, they begin the 2024 college football season at home against Idaho State as they look to navigate their new two-team Pac-12 prediciment. After a meeting with San Diego State in Week 2 — they’ll be gearing up for a non-conference rivalry matchup against the Oregon Ducks.
