Oregon State and UC Irvine got through four and a half innings of baseball on Sunday in the Corvallis Regional. However, due to weather in the area, the game will not conclude until Monday.

The Beavers held a 6-4 lead over the Anteaters after the top of the fourth inning tonight. Due to rainy conditions, though, the remainder of the game was suspended until tomorrow with play resuming right after noon on the west coast.

“Oregon State baseball’s NCAA Corvallis Regional matchup versus UC Irvine Sunday was suspended in the fourth inning due to rain. The game will resume Monday at 12:06 p.m. PT,” Oregon State wrote in their release. “The Beavers lead the game 6-4 and the game will resume with one out and a runner on first base for UC Irvine in the bottom of the fourth.”

“The game will air on ESPN+. Additional broadcast information, if available, will be announced Monday.”

UC Irvine, which would need to win tomorrow as well as a potential second matchup on Monday to advance, started this game off well with a 4-0 start after the first inning. After all three of their first batters reached base, a ground out and home run created their early lead.

Oregon State then immediately responded at the top of the second. They too hit a three-run home run as Elijah Hainline went the distance after UC Irvine walked two batters themselves. A combination of fly-outs, hits, and wild pitches then allowed two more to score to take the lead at 5-4.

Both teams may have preferred to finish the game tonight in order to go ahead and either advance to the Super Regional or prepare for the final matchup instead. Still, the rain had other ideas with action set to resume on Monday instead.

No. 2 Kentucky wins Lexington Regional

No. 1 seed Kentucky, the No. 2 overall seed in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Tournament, defeated No. 3 Indiana State 5-0 Sunday night to win the Lexington Regional for the second consecutive season.

It is the first time in program history the Cats have won a regional in just three games.

With the win, Kentucky has clinched its first home Super Regional in program history. The Cats will host the winner of the Corvallis Regional, which will be either No. 1 seed Oregon State or No. 2 seed UC-Irvine, next week. The winner will head to the College World Series, a feat that Kentucky has never accomplished.
