Cam Scott is the 2024 On3 Consensus No. 18 ranked player. The Lexington (NC) High shooting guard attended the University of South Carolina team camp this weekend, where he picked up a new offer from new Gamecock head coach Lamont Paris.

“My IQ has improved this summer,” Scott told On3. “I’m seeing my spots where I need to take over, slow down, and feel out the pace of the game.”

June 15 is the date college coaches can start contacting the class of 2024 players directly. Soon after that, they will begin to be able to take official visits. On3 caught up with Cam Scott at the camp to talk about his new offer and what visits he is looking to set.

“I have been laying low with recruitment, to be honest,” Scott said. “I have been focusing on getting in the lab and improving until June 15, when college coaches can start calling me. We will look forward to getting on some campuses after that. I know I will want to come here (South Carolina) and spend time with this new coaching staff, I want to get over to Tennessee, and I think we are looking to see Oregon.”

Scott talks recruitment

South Carolina: “I got to spend some time with the new coaches this weekend. We’ve all been cool, they have been at every one of my games so far, and we’ve kept in touch. They’ve been talking with my family, and we’ve been talking with him, just catching up about life. We set up an unofficial visit here in a couple so we can sit down and really have a good conversation.”

Oregon:Coach Chuck (Martin) and my relationship runs pretty deep. He was one of the first coaches to start recruiting me when he was at South Carolina. That sticks out to me and his loyalty to me. Just to hear the coaching staff has already been at a few of my games during the live period, they are someone I am looking forward to seeing.”

Tennessee: “They are all about getting players better every day. They have guys going in and out of the draft every year, top athletes, and top players. They have been consistent, and it has been something that opened my eyes.”

… other visits

North Carolina: “I’ve been to UNC three times, I think. I am going to try to get an official visit there pretty soon.”

Clemson: “I want to get on an official visit to Clemson as well, so I can get back in front of their staff.”

“A sleeper school for me is College of Charleston,” Scott said. “I heard they were recruiting pretty deep and recruiting a lot of people I know too. Maybe we could team up, go down there, and start some real good.”

Scott’s take

“When I take these visits, I’ll be looking to see if it is a place I can have peace of mind,” Scott said. “Somewhere I can be safe, and it feels like home. I want to play for a coaching staff I trust and who supports my family and my decisions; a staff where we all stay in touch, feel comfortable with each other, and have trust.”
