Pac-12 Hotline’s Jon Wilner expects the Pac-12’s future to be determined within the next 24-36 hours, meaning Friday or early Saturday. The chances of survival are not great, according to Wilner.

Wilner joined On3’s Andy Staples and determined the Pac-12 has a less than 50-50 chance at survival. The prime exit candidates right now are Arizona, Arizona State and Utah, but Arizona seems to be the biggest target at the moment for the Big 12.

Wilner explained on Andy Staples On3

“I would say 40% chance of survival, 45% chance of survival,” Wilner said. “It’s probably a little bit less than 50-50. But the other aspect is, somebody’s going to have to pull the plug. Who wants to pull the plug?”

Staples mentioned Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark as the guy to do it. Wilner agreed.

“He doesn’t (care), but would Arizona or Arizona State want to be the ones that are responsible for the thing dissolving,” Wilner said. “Oregon, Washington. I don’t think any of the Presidents really want to do that.

“I think they’re all kind of around the table, kind of saying, well, we’ll stay if you stay well, we’ll stay if you stay and nobody trusts anybody and everybody has options available or almost everybody. And so it could just be like presidential stasis just causes this thing to move forward.”

Big Ten could ‘kill’ Pac-12, per Dan Wetzel

According to Yahoo Sports’ Dan Wetzel, the Big Ten could become a proverbial vulture flying around the ever-vulnerable Pac-12 once the Big 12 is done having its fun. We all know how this story ends — and it could only be a matter of time until the conference is gone for good because the Big 12, Big Ten and even potentially the SEC absorbed their programs.

“The [Big Ten] doesn’t want to be the conference that killed another conference, especially their supposed alliance partner. It was a really beautiful relationship that they had,” Wetzel said on Andy Staples On3 earlier this week. “I find this comically hysterical because it encapsulates college athletics. We’re not going to kill you, but we already killed you … Taking USC and UCLA away is what will eventually kill the Pac-12.

“There is a scenario where they survive, but if Arizona goes and all of a sudden it gets rocky. If Utah and Arizona State go with them to the Big 12, we don’t know if the Big 12 can get to 16 teams. Will their broadcast partners keep giving $31 million to the bill to add Arizona, Arizona State and Utah. … If this thing falls, the [Big Ten] is circling the [Pac-12’s] carcass and saying, ‘What do we want?’ and just pick this apart.”
