The Pitt Panthers stormed back to beat the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday night, prevailing 38-34 in front of the crowd in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The feelings in the Backyard Brawl are as intense as they’ve ever been, and Panthers head coach Pat Narduzzi surely let everyone know about it in his postgame comments.

He was ticked off about the officiating and let the sideline reporter know about it on the field.

The transcribed version of that segment of the interview is below.

The reporter asked him, you told us you challenged your defense and your secondary in this one. How do you think they answered that?

“I think our DBs did a heck of a job, period. Some of the calls we got, late hit out of bounds. Catching balls and they hit them in the face. I’ve never seen anything like it. You know? Wow. We beat West Virginia in the Backyard Brawl and we beat the officials, too in one game,” Narduzzi explained.

How was he feeling emotionally after the big win? “It’s personal. And we’re gonna have a damn good time in the locker room. Hail to Pitt!” Narduzzi said before heading into the locker room.

Pittsburgh and West Virginia delivered yet another classic in the Backyard Brawl. Both WVU quarterback Garrett Greene and Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein played pretty well. Greene had over 250 all-purpose yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He had a costly interception in the final seconds of the game, sealing the comeback victory for the Pitt Panthers.

Holstein was phenomenal for the Panthers, with some of his most critical plays coming late in the fourth quarter. Holstein had a great run where he eluded a couple of WVU defenders in the pocket, scampering down inside the 10-yard line. From there, the Pittsburgh offense would eventually punch the ball in with 32 seconds left, thanks to a one-yard plunge by running back Derrick Davis, Jr. That put the Panthers up 38-34 in what would be the final score of the game.

West Virginia got one final shot, but quarterback Garrett Greene was intercepted by Pitt star linebacker Kyle Louis. The interception sealed the victory for the Panthers, getting them revenge for last year’s win by WVU.
