Paul Finebaum circles two teams he has biggest problem with in College Football Playoff Top 12
Paul Finebaum still has a big problem with two teams, Penn State and Indiana, within the College Football Playoff Top 12.
He doesn’t trust either team against higher quality teams like Georgia, or perhaps Texas, Ohio State and Oregon. The good news is, we get to see it all play out in the next few weeks.
But that didn’t stop Finebaum from calling the two Big Ten schools overvalued in the playoff.
“Well, I’ve talked a lot about Indiana and Penn State, but I just think they’re overvalued,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show. “I’m aware, thank you very much, that Indiana is playing Ohio State this week, so we’ll get a good read. And I mean, they’re a very good football team, but I just don’t believe they could hold up.
“Here I go playing the Kirby Smart card that I’ve been playing all weekend. But you give them a schedule like Georgia, and are they going to survive that? And the answer is no, Penn State is dominating bad teams. But I don’t trust them either. So I mean, it’s those two that irritate me the most.”
Could Indiana or Penn State make a run in the playoff? Maybe, depending upon seeding or if Indiana proves it can beat one of the best this coming weekend.

Indiana takes on Ohio State in Columbus Saturday for the inside track at the Big Ten Championship Game and a high seed in the playoff.
If Indiana coach Curt Cignetti has anything to say about it, he’ll prove his team is worthy on the field.
“Well, you know, honestly, they came to me, they were very proactive,” Cignetti said of Indiana coming with a contract. “And, you know, some people say, ‘Well, you know, why would you do that when this one may open, that one may open, you know, and you’re going to be a hot commodity, blah, blah, blah.’ And the fact that matter is, we’re the emerging superpower in college football. Why would I leave?”
At this rate, it seems like we can book Penn State and Indiana for the College Football Playoff, along with Oregon and Ohio State. Four Big Ten teams and maybe four SEC teams? Perhaps that’ll be when Finebaum no longer has a problem with those two schools.
Or not.
