Paul Finebaum: Deion Sanders, Colorado winning Big 12 Championship in 2024 'is simply laugable'
Of all the teams that could contend this season in the Big 12, Paul Finebaum is certain that Colorado is not going to be one of them.
Finebaum assessed the Buffaloes chances of winning the Big 12 in 2024 during an appearance on ‘Get Up’ on Friday. In the spirit of tomorrow’s season openers in Week 0, specifically the one from Ireland, he suggested Matt Barrie must have been under the influence to ask him such a silly question as that. With that, he said the focus for them should be much closer to earning bowl eligibility than it is any kind of titles this season.
“Apparently you’ve been drinking too many pints from Dublin,” said Finebaum. “That is simply laughable.”
“I mean, listen, everybody loves Coach Prime. But try getting to a bowl game, okay, before you start competing for a conference championship or anything else.”

Opinions on Colorado and the passion behind them vary more than just about any team in the country. They’ve elicited those responses from the beginning of the tenure, all throughout last season, and up to now.
On one hand, Deion Sanders might have them better positioned to compete in his second season there, especially with the returns of Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter. Now, in a different league than from his first, there is certainly a chance for them to win more games than their four from his debut. Theoretically, if they did enough of that in their wide-open conference, they could possibly find themselves at least in Arlington on December 7th.

However, on the other hand, the Buffaloes could once again be struggling by season’s end and miss out on another bowl, let alone not making the Big 12 Championship. They lost eight last season, including their entire back half in a row, and the schedule isn’t much better this year, especially in conference play.
Finebaum is willing to give them a bowl game berth with either a 6-6 or 7-5 record this fall. Beyond that, though, he doesn’t see it at all for Coach Prime and Colorado.
“I think (a bowl) is their ceiling this year, maybe break six or seven wins,” said Finebaum. “But conference championship? Not a chance.”
