Paul Finebaum dunks on Florida State after 0-2 start, declares 2024 'season is over'
No team has had a worse start to the fall than Florida State as they find themselves at 0-2 both overall and in the ACC by Labor Day. With that, the rest of it looks like it’ll be no better according to Paul Finebaum.
Finebaum appeared on ‘Get Up’ on Tuesday to discuss the Seminoles following their 28-13 loss to Boston College last night. He noted how far their goals have shifted since the end of last season and just over the first week or so of this season. None of that really matters to him now, though, with the year all but over already in Tallahassee in his opinion.
“That’s the issue. People shouldn’t be worried about the playoffs. They should be worried about winning a game and trying to save their season,” Finebaum said. “I don’t think they can. This season is over. I know that sounds like I’m going crazy. I’m not. This is a team that we were told deserved to be in the playoffs last year and certainly were going to be in the playoffs this year and they’re not going to. They can’t do anything right. They can’t go anywhere.”

FSU could have explained the 24-21 opening defeat to Georgia Tech in Dublin in more ways than one. While not ideal, it also wasn’t as bad in this season specifically based on the expansion of the playoff. However, the 15-point loss to the Eagles in game two at Doak Campbell Stadium is a disastrous one.
Being one of the only winless teams through two games rather than one, especially in conference play, is why it’s as terrible as it truthfully is.
“I know a lot of people will say there’s a lot of football left to be played. No, Greeny, the football has already been played,” Finebaum said. “These are not even big games on Florida State’s schedule. They have blown both of them. They’re in the ACC, which means they need to win that league at this point to get an automatic bid or even into the playoff. They’re not going to.
“I don’t really – I’m not sure this team can beat anyone the way they’ve played in the first two rounds.”
So, if the year is already over, who do the ‘Noles have to hold responsible for it? No one but themselves says Finebaum. Mike Norvell also gets a portion of the criticism from him too with how his team has played to start out.

“They have no one else to blame. I’m sure somebody down there is saying, ‘Who can we sue?'” Finebaum jabbed. “The only people to blame are themselves.
“I hate to be critical of Mike Norvell, someone I’m a big fan of, but he has done a miserable job of getting this team ready to go,” continued Finebaum. “He must’ve been spending the offseason listening to all of the fans bellyaching about why they deserved to be in last year instead of Alabama.”
Florida State is going to keep playing this season out from here because they have to and with there still be double-digit opportunities on their slate. Still, as for actually accomplishing this year now, Finebaum thinks not as they’ll have to wait to do that until 2025.
“Here they are. They’re suddenly an easy win on most team’s schedule,” said Finebaum. “We thought they were going to be a formidable opponent. They’re not. They’re terrible.
“Let’s not act like this is not a big deal. It is a big deal. Stick a fork in them. They’re done. We’ll see you next year, Florida State.”
