Paul Finebaum shot back at Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt for his comments about his quarterback play in comparison with Quinn Ewers.

The Sun Devils star said he wanted to prove he is the better quarterback and while there was a little trash talk, Ewers took the high road. That didn’t stop Finebaum though.

He made quite the bold proclamation regarding Leavitt and Ewers going into the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.

“Sam, you’re not going to prove you’re the better quarterback. I’ve got bad news for you there,” Finebaum said on Get Up. “Ultimately, he’s in real trouble here. I mean, I applaud anybody who talks a good game. But ultimately, Quinn Ewers is still one of the better quarterbacks in the country. He gets overrated a little bit, but this is not going to happen for Sam. Texas should win this game. I think they’ll win pretty easily too.”

This season, Leavitt has 2,663 yards, 24 touchdowns, five interceptions and a 63.2% completion percentage. Ewers has 2,867 yards, 26 touchdowns, 10 interceptions and a 66.5% completion percentage.

On paper, Leavitt and Ewers are pretty close.

“Yea, I’ve watched him for a fair amount of time now,” Leavitt said. “I’m just excited for the opportunity. People keep counting me out since Day 1, and you know, I’m going to go prove why I’m the better quarterback. That’s how I feel since Day 1. So I’m going to go put everybody on the map.”

Ewers was asked about Leavitt’s comments. Ewers acknowledged that he saw what Leavitt had to say.

“Yea, I mean, I saw it,” Quinn Ewers said. “Just congrats to them on a great year and a great season. I’ve gotten to watch some of their games and he’s a talented player. And they’re a fun offense to watch. And again, just excited to be up against them.”

As far as how the game will unfold, Finebaum won’t pick Leavitt over Ewers and won’t pick Arizona State over Texas. While the Longhorns came in as SEC runner ups, they beat Clemson in the first round and looked impressive.

Arizona State stunned the college football world by winning the Big 12 and earning the No. 4 seed and a first round bye.

It’ll all be settled on the field New Year’s Day at 1:00 p.m. ET.
