Paul Finebaum marvels at 'masterclass' Kalen DeBoer has shown replacing Nick Saban
There will never be another Nick Saban in college football. The legendary coach was seemingly impossible to replace given all he did for the Alabama Crimson Tide. However, to this point, Kalen DeBoer has done an excellent job filling those shoes.
One person who has marveled at the job DeBoer has done in Tuscaloosa is Paul Finebaum. During an appearance on SportsCenter, he went so far as to call the job he’s done a masterclass.
“Nothing could be finer,” Paul Finebaum said. “Unbelievable. This guy has really done one of the masterclasses I have ever seen in a transition. You saw it on Saturday night. It wasn’t perfect — it was perfect for the first half but they won the game on an amazing play and that’s all people are going to remember.”
This is coming on the heels of Alabama’s win over Georgia. In that game, the Crimson Tide jumped out to an early 28-0 lead and even amid a rampant comeback attempt by the Bulldogs, were able to win the game in one of the biggest matchups of the entire season.
Since the game, Finebaum has been incredibly complimentary of DeBoer. In a separate appearance on SportsCenter, he even suggested that Alabama might look better under DeBoer than it did under Saban.

“There’s no way I’m going against Alabama no matter what you guys say this morning,” Finebaum said. “It really just doesn’t matter. I am in on the Crimson Tide. What else can be said, I’ll keep going here, with this dominating performance. For one half, I might add. But they did what they had to do. I’m about to say something that may sound blasphemous here on a Sunday morning but, guys, I think I can say it to you because you’re men of great faith of college football, but does Alabama look better under Kalen DeBoer than Nick Saban?”
For as extreme as that may sound given Nick Saban’s career success, Kalen DeBoer is a coach who has had success everywhere he’s been, from the NAIA level to the FBS level.

Following the win over Georgia, Kalen DeBoer opened up about his emotions in the stressful final moments of the win.
“When you face a really good football team you know there’s going to be a strong push,” DeBoer said. “That’s what I would expect from us if we were ever in a spot. We’re going to fight till the very end. I’d expect our guys to go make plays.”
