Paul Finebaum power ranks the SEC after Week 12, warns Ole Miss, Texas A&M
As the season comes to an end, the SEC standings are tighter than ever. After this weekend, five teams have two losses in conference play. On Sunday, Paul Finebaum weighed in on the prestigious conference’s pecking order.
“I don’t think Texas is the best team. They just don’t look that part,” Finebaum said. “They may end up the champion. But to me, Ole Miss, at the moment, looks the best. And I don’t want to sound like that guy creating public relations from the SEC headquarters building.
“There are a couple of road games,” Finebaum said. “Ole Miss has a road game at Florida… Alabama at Oklahoma doesn’t sound pretty scary. But I’ll tell you, the game that I’m really interested in is A&M at Auburn. A&M is a terrible road team. They have just struggled on the road.
“Auburn is just that team that’s been hanging around all year — doing nothing, by the way — but capable of maybe scratching out an ugly win. I don’t want to short-sell Ole Miss at Florida… But I mean, a little bit dangerous too.”
Following a hectic Week 12, Texas is one of only two SEC teams with a 5-1 conference record — the other being Texas A&M. Nonetheless, Finebaum isn’t convinced. The Longhorns likely didn’t give him any more confidence this past weekend with their narrow 20-10 win over Arkansas.

Also, Texas’ sole loss of the season was an ugly one, with the Longhorns falling 30-15 to the Georgia Bulldogs, whose offense didn’t play particularly well.
While Ole Miss also has had its fair share of lackluster performances this season — namely in its loss to Kentucky — the Rebels have looked excellent lately. Most recently, Ole Miss dominated Georgia 28-10, racking up nearly 400 yards of offense against the Bulldogs.
Although Finebaum currently leans toward Ole Miss being the best team in the SEC, he knows plenty can change in the final two weeks of the season. As he mentioned, teams like Auburn or Florida could play spoiler to a top-tier SEC team with their eyes on the College Football Playoff.
