Paul Finebaum has seen his fair share of SEC football games, having covered the game for more than four decades. Even with all that experience, he doesn’t think he’s seen a better game than Saturday night’s thriller between Alabama and Georgia.

While making an appearance on SportsCenter, Finebaum ranked the Alabama-Georgia game as the best he’s seen covering the SEC, making it one of the classic college football games that’s been played.

“I’ve covered the SEC for more than 40 years,” Paul Finebaum said. “You can see that on my face right here, but I believe that is the best college football game in the SEC I have seen during all those years. I know we often get hung up on being prisoners of the moment but that is an exaggeration to say that we are in this case.”

At first, the game didn’t seem like it would be particularly competitive. Alabama jumped out to a 28-0 lead and seemed to be in complete control. However, Georgia didn’t give up and fought back to take a small lead late in the fourth quarter. That’s when Jalen Milroe found Ryan Williams for a massive touchdown to give the Crimson Tide the lead again.

Georgia responded by driving down the field. However, when Carson Beck threw an interception into the endzone, the game was all but sealed and the Crimson Tide would hold on to win a massive game.

“You saw the lead. You saw the comeback. You saw the ending. It had everything you could have, including the fact that we have this rivalry in the SEC, two of the best teams in the entire country who may or may not play again. It had absolutely everything,” Finebaum said.

“What Kirby Smart said is correct, that is true of both schools, nobody left anything on the field. They put it all out there and if you ask who’s the better team, the better team won, but next time it could be different.”

There’s a good chance this wasn’t the last time these two teams play each other this season. The SEC Championship Game is still on the table, as is the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer raves about Jalen Milroe’s growth after Georgia win

Following the win over Georgia, Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer praised quarterback Jalen Milroe for his growth.

“Yeah, coming out of the gates and I really felt like the last two weeks of practice, there was steps that were made and some little things,” DeBoer said on the ABC broadcast postgame.

“And he’s got more ahead of him, too. There’s more room to grow. He did a great job. We gave him some time, he got comfortable early and he did with his legs and through the air.”
