SEC Network host Paul Finebaum went on ESPN’s Get Up Wednesday morning to vehemently make the case for one-loss SEC schools over zero-loss ACC champions in the College Football Playoff.

Few seasons have ever featured the depth of playoff contenders this late in the season as we now head into conference championship weekend. with up to eight teams still vying for a possible spot. In Finebaum’s eyes, the argument ahead of this weekend centers around Florida State, who can finish 13-0 ACC champs this weekend but have played a weaker schedule and just lost their star QB, Jordan Travis, to injury.

“Well, I think we’re looking at the wrong schools. To me, it should be about Florida State,” Finebaum stated on Get Up. And he did not have glowing things to say about the Seminoles.

“I know what everyone wants to say, but I don’t really care about the argument that Florida State is an… undefeated, power five champion,” Finebaum said with as much sarcasm as he could muster. “I mean, so what? They’re beating Louisville, who just lost to a pedestrian Kentucky team last week.”

Of course, Finebaum touts the much stronger schedule faced in the SEC as a key factor on Alabama’s side in the resume discussion vs. Florida State or even Texas.

“I don’t wanna drag Marcus Spears into this, but he played in the SEC and he knows it’s a lot different conference than the ACC and the Big 12 right now.”

Finebaum then used his own lack of sports ability as a child to illustrate his point that Florida State doesn’t simply deserve to make the playoff because they’re undefeated ACC champs.

“You know what this reminds me of? When I was a kid, unlike Spears and Saturday, I wasn’t chosen to be the starting whatever. I’m waving my hand, ‘call on me!’ And that’s what we’re doing. We’re basically saying, ‘okay, Paul Finebaum, you can’t play worth a lick but you deserve to be in here because you’re a power five champion.’ That is absurd. It makes me want to scream because of the stupidity of it.”

Take note: Paul Finebaum is most certainly not in support of Florida State making the College Football Playoff over Alabama or Texas, no matter what happens in the ACC title game. Meanwhile, the Longhorns and Crimson Tide have their own conference championship games to worry about before the committee even has such a dilemma on its hands.
