PF Paul Osaruyi discusses early stages of his recruitment
Paul Osaruyi burst on the scene this high school season playing with Glendale (AZ) Canyon International Academy. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound freshman was one of the younger players on Nike’s EYBL Scholastic Circuit.
“I’m a highly-athletic big man,” Osaruyi told On3. “I have a high motor, block shots, rebound. I try to be a key player and impact the game on multiple levels. I’m playing the game at a higher pace now and becoming more of a lob threat.”
This summer, Osaruyi played with the Canadian u17 national team in the FIBA World Cup. His 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 blocks per game both finished in the top 20 overall in the event.
“I was injured for the first three games that we played,” Osaruyi said. “So I wish I was playing, but the experience was great. The coaches treated me right, they understood my game. I didn’t get to play at my highest level, but I definitely saw I could compete at that level, and that I still got a lot of stuff to improve on. I had a great experience.”
On3 caught up with Paul Osaruyi after a recent live viewing to discuss his game and recruitment.

Osoruyi talks recruitment
“Right now I have offers from Oklahoma State, Cal State Northridge, and Arizona State,” Osaruyi said. “I went to a game at Arizona State, but I have not really been on any unofficial visits yet, like looked around the campus and all.”
ARIZONA STATE: “The Arizona State crowd is great. They get a lot of fans to go to their games there and they are pretty loud. The team is good, they play at a high pace and they’re always sprinting and they’re fun to watch.”
In Paul Osaruyi’s words
“I would say that I’m a versatile center,” Osaruyi said. “Like a forward who can do a lot of things or play as a center.
“I want to go to a school that understands my game. A place that is there to support me every second that I’m there. Honestly, just a place where I know they have my best interest and they will help me to become a better player and a better person.”
