Penn celebrates win over Auburn with Kick Six troll
Penn upset regional host Auburn to open NCAA Tournament action on Friday. The 2023 Ivy League champions wasted no time trolling the Tigers their most iconic celebration calls of all time.
“PENN’S GONNA WIN THE BASEBALL GAME!!! PENN’S GONNA WIN THE BASEBALL GAME!!!” the team’s social media account tweeted in place of the final score. The excitement in the tweet was due to the nature of the win — a 6-3 win in the 11th inning.
The call is an obvious reference to Auburn’s ‘Kick Six‘ call from the late Rod Bramblett. Chris Davis infamously ran a missed field goal back 109 yards as time expired to break the 28-28 tie and give the Tigers the victory over Alabama in the 2013 Iron Bowl.
The Quakers fought tooth-and-nail against the Tigers all night long, as neither team was able to find more than one run of separation for the first 10 innings. Penn took the lead 2-1 in the eighth but would enter extra innings knotted at three. Ryan Taylor brought in Jarrett Pokrovsky to give them the lead in the 11th before two sacrifice bunts brought home back-to-back runs.
Auburn could not answer the bell at the bottom of the 11th, and the Quakers will advance to the championship rounds. The Tigers, on the other hand, face Southern Miss in a win-or-go-home matchup. The first pitch is set for 2 p.m. CT live on ESPN.

Butch Thompson on Auburn pitching duel against Penn
The Auburn Tigers are in a tight one during their opening contest of the Regional Round of the NCAA Tournament. As the host team of their group, Auburn should anticipate getting the absolute best out of every opponent they face.
And that is exactly what they are getting from the Ivy League champions, the Penn Quakers. Penn is up on Auburn through five innings, leading 1-0. But before heading into the fifth, the team at ESPN caught up with Tigers skipper Butch Thompson to get his thoughts on Friday’s pitcher’s duel.
Thompson addressed the lack of offense by the Tigers in the game thanks to the performance of Penn pitcher Ryan Dromboski.
“It was some shadows early. He has done an amazing job. He is the storyline of our offense not getting going. Lefties are seeing him better, and our righties keep getting out the same way. So I think it’s more with the right-handed hitters to make an adjustment here.”
