The Big Ten has a new television deal, with CBS and NBC entering the picture. Now, the conference will be able to play games at different times throughout the season. Black Friday has been a popular day in college football over the years and the Big Ten is ready to fully take advantage.

Since Nebraska joined the Big Ten, their rivalry game against Iowa has been a Black Friday staple. But the Big Ten is now adding another game to the schedule, with Penn State traveling to East Lansing to face off against Michigan State.

“Penn State football will play Michigan State on Black Friday, Nov. 24, and the game will air on NBC, two Big Ten sources who were not authorized to discuss the ongoing construction of the schedule confirmed to The Athletic,” the report said.

Michigan State and Penn State play for the Land Grant Trophy. While neither fanbase would consider it the program’s premier rivalry, it’s still always an important one in the Big Ten. There has never been a set date for the matchup but the 2023 edition will be the season finale.

There has never been a Friday matchup between the two programs. Over the 36 matchups throughout history, all have taken place on Saturdays. This will, however, be the third consecutive game to take place in the month of November.

NBC has not announced any additional broadcast information. There will be other football games played on Black Friday, including the NFL. The Big 12 and SEC have games scheduled for the day as well.

But for fans of the Big Ten, NBC should be your one stop shop for two of the conference’s top rivalry games.

Big Ten to have Iowa, Nebraska play on Black Friday

The Big Ten is no stranger to Black Friday, placing one of the West’s top rivalries taking place on the national holiday. Iowa and Nebraska have played the day following Thanksgiving every year since the Cornhuskers joined the conference back in 2011.

However, this will be the first time NBC has the broadcast. One of the channels of the Fox network has traditionally shown the matchup. But with a new television deal coming through, things are going to get switched up.

Nebraska will play host to Iowa this season. Head coach Matt Rhule will enter his first rivalry game and hoping to get a win streak for the Huskers for the first time since 2011-2012.
