Top-50 CG Kayden Mingo commits to Penn State
Kayden Mingo, a four-star combo guard in the 2025 class, has committed to Penn State, he told On3. Ranked 44th nationally, Mingo becomes the program’s highest-ranked recruit in the modern recruiting era.
The 6-foot-1 senior out of Long Island Lutheran (NY) chose head coach Mike Rhoades and the Nittany Lions over Wake Forest, but also received offers from Georgia and Virginia Tech.
Mingo on his commitment to Penn State
Kayden Mingo discussed his decision with On3.
“I chose Penn State because I felt like this was the best place for me to thrive and reach my goals,” he said. “Penn State felt like home. Coach Rhoades and the staff were very consistent with me and took time to get to know me. They were always calling and checking in even if it wasn’t about basketball and they were very active when it came to me.”

In his own words, what type of player is Penn State getting in Kayden Mingo?
” I describe my game as a winner. A point guard who can do a little bit of everything in different ways. I can score, pass, rebound and defend. Whatever a team needs I feel I can do.”
He has a message for Penn State fans.
“Happy Valley! Let’s do it!!!”
Scouting Report
“His aggressiveness is the takeaway from watching Kayden Mingo play. He is aggressive with everything he does on the floor, and that is the aspect that enhances his overall floor game. Mingo has a solid handle, looking to get downhill off the bounce. He can knock down shots off the catch or step into them. While he is a bit undersized as an off guard he can get a team into sets. Mingo is a good on ball defender and he rebounds his position well. While you are able to poke holes in the individual pieces of his game, the totality of his production is difficult to ignore. He also is not afraid of the moment. Mingo shot over 40% from three last high school season on Nike’s EYBL Scholastic Circuit while also averaging 4.0+ assists. The production has been consistent over the past 12 months.” – On3’s Jamie Shaw
