“I think you guys know that have covered us for a long time, I don’t know if there’s been very many times, if any, that I’ve talked about internal punishments that we’ve had,” Franklin said Tuesday. “We released a statement on it. But I don’t think there’s been many times where I’ve actually told you guys what the internal punishment was going to be.”

While citing the State College police in an affidavit of probable cause, the Centre Daily Times‘ Brett Pallotto reported that the 23-year-old Vanover was charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI. Pallotto also reported that, in early August, Vanover was stopped for an expired tag and smelled of marijuana, according to an officer on-site. Vanover ultimately took a blood test and tested positive for marijuana, per Pallotto’s reporting.

Vanover is also facing a summary charge of driving an unregistered vehicle, according to WTAJ-TV, a CBS affiliate station in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Vanover has played a combined 61 defensive snaps in two games this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He has three pressures to his name this year, per PFF, plus he’s recorded a pair of tackles.

The Newark, New Jersey, native joined the program in 2020. Of his four previous seasons, 2022 stood out of the most: Vanover logged a career-high 256 defensive snaps as well as 16 pressures, per PFF. He also stacked a career-best 16 total tackles that year. That said, it’s worth noting his 1.5 sacks and, per PFF, 18 pressures in 2023.

Vanover has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Oct. 2.
