Former Penn State WR transfer Omari Evans has set visits to Tennessee, Washington, Texas Tech and Syracuse, he tells On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

Evans, who revealed his intention to enter the portal on Tuesday, caught 21 passes for 415 yards and five touchdowns during the 2024 season. He’ll have one more year of eligibility to play for his next program. Whether that’s with any of those four teams he’s set to visit remains to be seen.

Most recently, Evans was impactful in both the Big Ten Championship game vs. Oregon, and again in the Fiesta Bowl vs. Boise State this past season. Evans caught touchdown passes in both games despite having just three touches overall. However, Evans did not record any stats during the College Football Playoff semifinal vs. Notre Dame.

His best game came against Kent State in September, where he caught four passes for 116 yards and a touchdown.

Evans spent three seasons in Happy Valley overall, and had the best season of his career in 2024. In his first two seasons combined, he caught just nine passes but was able to make the most of it having gone for 150 yards and a pair of touchdowns before his breakout junior season saw him set career-highs across the board.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Evans was a three-star recruit out of Kileen (Texas) Shoemaker, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 79 overall prospect in the state, the No. 81 wide receiver in the class and the No. 508 overall prospect in the class.

The portal officially opened on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024. More than 2,800 FBS scholarship players entered their names into the NCAA’s transfer database during the 2023-24 school year. Removing those who withdrew or went pro, the final total sat at 2,707 transfers.

That means roughly 25 percent of all FBS scholarship players hit free agency in one year, per On3’s Pete Nakos. It remains to be seen how those numbers stack up during the 2024-25 school year.
