The Jamey Chadwell era at Coastal Carolina has been more than fruitful for the Chanticleers, but his time with the program could be coming to an end.

Over recent seasons, Chadwell has become one of the hottest names on the coaching market. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, that could coincide with the Flames — the Liberty Flames, that is — making a strong push for the Coastal Carolina leader to takeover their program

“There’s less optimism at Coastal Carolina for the future of coach Jamey Chadwell staying there,” stated Thamel. “Sources told me this morning Liberty has put on a strong push, even offering $4 million a year to Chadwell. No decision has been made by Chadwell, but expect one in the next 24-48 hours.”

Since taking over Coastal Carolina in 2017, Chadwell has taken the Chanticleers from a middling team to perennial contenders in the Sun Belt Conference. Amassing a record of 39-21 along with a conference title, Chadwell has proven to be able to turn the program around.

With Hugh Freeze leaving for Auburn, Liberty isn’t waiting around to see if they can keep up the good-will that Freeze built for them. They’d be giving Chadwell a massive upgrade in the financial department, and providing him with the next step in his coaching career.

Meanwhile, Coastal Carolina is refusing to be blindsided, as the Chanticleers already have an idea of who they would target if Chadwell decided to leave.

“If Chadwell does leave Coastal Carolina, Coastal officials are ready. They’ve been preparing for Chadwell to go the last few years, he’s been one of the hottest coaches,” elaborated Thamel. “The name to look at, one of the top names that Coastal could target is NC State offensive coordinator Tim Beck.

“Expect Coastal to have a Chadwell replacement, if Chadwell leaves, by the end of the weekend.”

As you can see, a lot of moving parts will be put into place if Jamey Chadwell decides to take his talents to Liberty. The writing seems to be on the wall, but there’s still a Sun Belt Championship Game to be played on Saturday for Coastal Carolina, and it could be Chadwell’s swan song.
