Colston Loveland, Will Johnson injury update: Pete Thamel reveals latest on injured Michigan players
Pete Thamel shared updates on two of the best players at Michigan ahead of their next game this weekend.
Thamel had the latest for the Wolverines on Colston Loveland and Will Johnson during ‘College Football Live’ on Tuesday. He started with Loveland as he said that the tight end for the maize & blue will be a game-time decision depending on his shoulder’s mobility this weekend at Minnesota.

“Yeah, Colston Loveland missed the USC game after injuring his shoulder the prior week. He’s still going to be questionable for Minnesota,” said Thamel. “They’re testing the range of motion in that shoulder They’ll see it’ll be closer to a game-time decision of whether he’ll be able to go on Saturday.’
Loveland is still Michigan’s leading receiver this season despite missing the win against the Trojans with the arm injury. He has 19 catches for 187 yards and a touchdown so far in what was a career-best start to the season he was having through his three appearances this fall. That was before exiting in the first half against Arkansas State two weekends ago and not returning.
On Monday, Sherrone Moore said they’d have to see in regards to Loveland’s availability. He did add, though, that they could have tried to play him this last weekend but instead decided to be cautious with him.
As for Johnson, the Wolverines’ corner will be available against the Golden Gophers on Saturday per Thamel after he suffered his own shoulder injury versus USC.
“The good news for Michigan? Will Johnson left the game, went to the locker room. He’s fine. He’s expected back,” Thamel said.
Johnson has 11 tackles and a pair of pick-sixes this season in Michigan’s secondary. That gives him three touchdowns off interceptions in his collegiate career for the most in school history in Ann Arbor.
Johnson certainly looks to be a go for this weekend while Loveland’s matter will need to be followed in the coming days. Still, both could be back for kickoff against Minnesota on Saturday for the last of a five-game homestand to open the season.

Michigan and Minnesota will play their second conference games against one another on Saturday in The Big House.
Vegas has since released the point spread for the game. FanDuel had Michigan as a 12.5-point favorite against Minnesota but that line is now down to 9.5 for the Wolverines. The over-under is also down from 40.5 to 36.5.
