Oklahoma five-star safety signee Peyton Bowen talks final decision, Oregon flip
Denton (Texas) Guyer five-star safety Peyton Bowen is at peace with his decision to sign with Oklahoma.
Bowen originally flipped from Notre Dame to Oregon on the first day of the Early Signing Period. A few days later after not signing with the Ducks, he flipped again and signed with Oklahoma.
When it was announced on Thursday that Oregon co-defensive coordinator Matt Powledge had accepted the job at Baylor, Bowen said that he felt even more justified in his decision
“I felt really happy with my decision and still do,” Bowen said. “I really didn’t talk to much to Oregon and I was just in my own space. I texted them what I was thinking and stuff like that. I texted Coach (Matt) Powledge who just went to Baylor so I’m a little bit happy with that because I would’ve been very upset.
“It was a blessing in disguise. The talks weren’t too bad but I didn’t really talk to them too much.”

Bowen stated that the original plan after talking to his family was to pick Oregon and that he wanted to make everyone happy. In his heart though, Bowen said he wanted to go to Oklahoma.
“My parents kind of turned Oklahoma for me a week or two before,” Bowen said. “When it really got down to the time to make the decision and I was being super indecisive, my mom was kind of like ‘Okay, I think you should do this’ and my dad said that the best fit would be Oklahoma.”
Bowens also said that he talked to the Notre Dame coaching staff a week before and told them that he would be flipping. The coaching staff made a trip to his home to try and talk him out of it and he said that he ultimately kept them in the mix as well.
After he didn’t sign with Oregon, Notre Dame remained in contact but those talks broke down.
“There were some altercations with what my dad said and stuff like that where I just said that I couldn’t do that,” Bowen said. “It was around 5ish where I said Notre Dame wasn’t going to be it.”
