As great of a rivalry as Bedlam has been, this might wind up being the final one for a long time. Oklahoma is heading to the SEC while Oklahoma State stays put in the Big 12. Neither program has really budged on getting an agreement sorted for the future, meaning Saturday in Stillwater is going to mean a whole lot to a ton of people.

Oklahoma will walk into Boone Pickens Stadium as a 5.5-point favorite, even with recent trends. Dan Rubenstein — who is making a pick on the game with On3’s Andy Staples — likes the momentum Oklahoma State has in recent weeks. They are winners of four straight off a bye, while the Sooners are fresh off a loss to Kansas.

His pick will be with the Pokes, thinking they can win the game outright.

“I think I like Oklahoma State here,” Rubenstein said during Monday’s episode of Andy Staples On3. “I was someone who was fully out on Oklahoma State before the season. The Ollie Gordon thing, there is the Chuba Hubbard element where I think Oklahoma State has the most exclusive rushing attack in America after these past few weeks.

“I don’t know if I trust Oklahoma’s defense… I think Oklahoma State at home, especially with Oklahoma leaving for the SEC. I think the environment is going to be at 11 and 12 and the momentum Oklahoma State has.”

Ollie Gordon has been the hottest hand in college football. During Oklahoma State’s current winning streak, he is averaging 214.3 yards per game and scored a total of eight touchdowns. The game plan for Mike Gundy should be quite simple, hoping Gordon continues to run all over defenses.

A lot of the positive momentum right now sides with Oklahoma State. Key word there — recent. There is more to this particular game than just a few weeks in the 2023 season.

Looking at the broader scope, this has been a rivalry Oklahoma has dominated. No matter how the game this weekend finishes, the Sooners will have over quadruple head-to-head wins in the rivalry. Just pure domination in an in-state rivalry.

Staples is riding with history and taking Oklahoma to win the game and cover the 5.5-point spread. If there is ever a doubt in Bedlam, taking the crimson and cream side is usually the safe bet.

“Over time, in this rivalry, Oklahoma wins,” Staples said. “So, I’m taking the Sooners to cover.”
