Pittsburgh defensive lineman Isaiah Neal was ejected for targeting in the fourth quarter against West Virginia on Saturday. The call by officials was roughing the passer in combination with targeting. The play happened when Neal hit WVU quarterback Garrett Greene in the helmet in the fourth quarter.

That means Neal will not be available for the rest of Saturday’s game and the first half of their next game, which will be on September 21st against Youngstown State.

Pittsburgh and West Virginia have delivered yet another classic in the Backyard Brawl on Saturday. Both WVU quarterback Garrett Greene and Pitt quarterback Eli Holstein played pretty well. Greene had over 250 all-purpose yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. He had a costly interception in the final seconds of the game, sealing the comeback victory for the Pitt Panthers.

Holstein was phenomenal for the Panthers, with some of his most critical plays coming late in the fourth quarter. Holstein had a great run where he eluded a couple of WVU defenders in the pocket, scampering down inside the 10-yard line. From there, the Pittsburgh offense would eventually punch the ball in with 32 seconds left, thanks to a one-yard plunge by running back Derrick Davis, Jr. That put the Panthers up 38-34 in what would be the final score of the game.

West Virginia got one final shot, but quarterback Garrett Greene was intercepted by Pitt star linebacker Kyle Louis. The interception sealed the victory for the Panthers, getting them revenge for last year’s win by WVU.

One of the best plays of the game was by Pittsburgh receiver Daejon Reynolds, who hauled in a 40-yard touchdown catch in the fourth quarter with a WVU defender draped all over him. He was outdone by West Virgnia receiver Justin Robinson, who hauled in a one-handed touchdown catch.

That one was without a doubt, play of the day.

Pittsburgh quarterback Eli Holstein certainly cemented himself in Backyard Brawl lore for the Panthers with some beautiful spirals in this one. He also showed off some impressive maneuvering in the pocket in his ability to escape West Virginia defenders in the open field. The Alabama transfer stepped up and on one of the biggest stages yet for the Panthers.
