Pittsburgh lands commitment from Iowa State transfer C Dishon Jackson

Iowa State transfer center Dishon Jackson has committed to Pittsburgh, On3’s Joe Tipton reported. Jackson played just one season with the Cyclones and will have one year of eligibility remaining.
The 6-foot-11 big man started in 33 of his 35 appearances during the 2024-25 season. He averaged 8.5 points and 5.1 rebounds across 18.7 minutes per game.
Jackson played high school basketball at St. Patrick-St. Vincent in Vallejo, California, where he was a four-star prospect. He originally committed to Washington State and played the first two seasons of his college career with the Cougars.
Jackson started 13 of 21 games as a true freshman in the 2020-21 season. He averaged 7.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in 20.4 minutes per game and cemented himself as a key rotational piece moving forward into his sophomore season.
Unfortunately, he would miss his junior year in 2022-23 due to undisclosed medical issues. He went on to transfer to Charlotte ahead of the 2023-24 season and averaged a career-high 11.4 points and 6.1 rebounds before transferring to Iowa State.
Jackson ranks as the No. 68 overall player and No. 7 center in the transfer portal this year according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He joins a Pittsburgh squad that is coming off of a 17-15 finish this past season in the seventh year under coach Jeff Capel.

The college basketball transfer portal officially opened for business on Monday, March 24, and will close 30 days later on Tuesday, April 22. As of this writing, more than 1,000 players had already entered their names.
Last spring alone, 1,962 Division I players tested the portal waters. Based on the early numbers from this year, even more could follow. For the first time in history, more than half of the points scored in college basketball were scored by players from the transfer portal, not high school, in the 2024-25 season.
In data gathered over the first two years with transfer windows, the NCAA found most athletes enter the portal within the first four weeks of the portal opening. The study showed that 73% of men’s and women’s basketball undergraduate athletes entered during the first four weeks. That increased to 82% for men and 86% for women in 2024.
