The Steelers released a couple of special teams players on Tuesday morning before the 4:00 p.m. ET deadline. Punter Jordan Berry and long snapper Kameron Canaday are no longer with Pittsburgh.

Berry was released after rookie punter and former Georgia Tech All-American Pressley Harvin III won the starting job on Monday. Last season Berry was beat out for the job by Dustin Colquitt.  Berry is an Australian-American punter who spent the duration of his professional career from 2015-2021 with the Steelers. He averaged 44.4 yards per punt over his six years in Pittsburgh with just one block over 385 punts.

Canaday joined Pittsburgh in 2017 after a year with the Cardinals. He snapped in every game since then. He played college football at Portland State and went undrafted in 2016. Christian Kuntz beat out Canaday to be the team’s long snapper this season.

Kicker Chris Boswell remains with the special teams unit in Pittsburgh. Boswell has been a steady presence with the Steelers since 2015; he has 146 field goals on 166 attempts with a career long of 59 yards.

Pittsburgh has already made a number of cuts in recent days

In addition to Berry and Canaday, the Steelers have already cut tight end Marcus Baugh, running back Tony Brooks-James, cornerback Shakur Brown, wide receiver Anthony Johnson, safety Lamont Wade, wide receiver Matthew Sexton, cornerback Lafayette Pitts, defensive tackle T.J. Carter and guard Malcolm Pridgeon.

The Steelers’ nine cuts were in large part inexperienced NFL players, some of whom have not made a roster in their young careers.

Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins is likely to make the Pittsburgh Steelers’ roster, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Haskins, a former first-round pick by the Washington Football Team, was released last season and signed with the Steelers hoping to revive his NFL career.
