Plano Police Department issues warrant for Cowboys rookie defensive end Sam Williams after car accident
The Plano Police Department has issued a warrant for Dallas Cowboys rookie Sam Williams following the defensive end’s car accident that led to his absence from the team’s Christmas Eve matchup versus the Eagles.
The accident, which totaled his car, resulted in a concussion and a neck strain for Williams. After the accident, the other party also went to the hospital.
The authorities are now claiming Williams was driving in a reckless manner, resulting in a misdemeanor charge.
“A misdemeanor warrant has been issued for Samuel Williams for Reckless Driving TRC 545.401 (Class B),” the department shared with ESPN’s Todd Archer on Wednesday. “Information about the warrant will not be public until after the warrant has been served/arrested.
“At this time, there is no plan to find and arrest him for the misdemeanor warrant, Williams has been contacted to turn himself in, and his bond will be set at his arraignment by the judge.”
Video from the incident in December revealed the extent of the damage:
It is unclear whether the second-round draft pick will be available for Monday night’s wild card playoff game versus the Buccaneers. The Georgia native has 22 tackles, including four sacks, in his rookie season so far.

“My first thing was like, ‘Thank you God,’” Williams said. “It could’ve been worse. I was thinking about my son a lot, and his mom. I could’ve been gone that fast, without seeing them to say goodbye… I was going home to them — like five or six minutes from my house.”
Williams’ crash, coming just three days before the Christmas holiday, made the former Ole Miss star particularly gracious and introspective. His advice after going through the ordeal is to celebrate life – and bury any lingering animosities.
“I look back over it and I’m just thankful for life,” Williams continued. “And Christmas was [near] and the biggest gift we have is life. You never know so I encourage everyone to hug your loved ones. Any dispute you have with family members, anything, just end it because you never know when that day is, and me going through that, I called my mama and family members — everybody to check on them.
“That was an accident, but there are more things going on in the world and I’m just thankful that I’m still here. You’re looking at the [totaled] car like, man, but God works in mysterious ways. I know He has something in store for me.”
