HBCU Prairie View A&M has extended an offer to Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville four-star EDGE Hunter Osborne.

Osborne is the No. 154 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

On3 rates him slightly higher as the No. 127 prospect in the 2023 cycle. He is also the 19th-best defensive lineman and 12th-best recruit from the state of Alabama.

Osborne talked with On3’s Chad Simmons in early November and named Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon and USC as schools that were standing out to him at the time.

“The communication with those schools and the bond we are building stand out. I am not close to these schools, so the way they are recruiting me does have my attention.”

However, five of those schools have new head coaches.

Not only have the coaching changes changed the recruiting landscape but Deion Sanders’ work at Jackson State as well.

HBCUs like Prairie View are now potential landing spots for top recruits thanks to players like Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill Five-Star Plus+ athlete Travis Hunter, the No. 1 overall recruit in the 2022 cycle.

Hunter committed to Jackson State during the early signing period in one of the most shocking flips in recruiting history.

“I’m paving a way for others to follow,” Hunter told On3’s Jeremy Johnson. “Every other top prospect in the country has a spot at an HBCU just like I do.”
