Prized Class of 2023 recruit reportedly passes away
Promising college football recruit Lamar Patterson has reportedly passed away, according to multiple tweets connected to those close to him. On Wednesday, teammates, coaches and supporters expressed their heartbreak for the tragic passing on social media.
“Got some terrible news! Lamar Patterson Dam lil dawg not you man,” tweeted West Orange High School defensive backs coach Chris Mitchell. “Prayers out to his family, close friends, mentors, coaches and to everyone who knew him! Lord please protect our youth! RIP.”
A three-star recruit out of Florida who played at St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md., Patterson was being recruited by multiple programs. According to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, he was leaning towards Penn State or Virginia Tech.
Earlier this week, Patterson shared multiple photos of himself decked out in Penn State and Virginia Tech gear.

One of the players to comment on the passing was four-star Texas A&M recruit Bryce Anderson. In a quote tweet, Anderson stated “RIP Lil Bro,” with a heartbreak emoji following.
Additionally, Traeshon Holden — Patterson’s former St. Frances Academy teammate and current Alabama wide receiver — also commented to the tragedy.
Patterson’s reported passing is certainly heartbreaking, as a person and a player brimming with potential has been taken too soon. On3 will update the story as more information becomes available.
