2024 Four-Star Kayvaun Mulready commits to Providence
Kayvaun Mulready, a four-star point guard in the 2024 class, has committed to Providence.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound prospect out of Worcester (MA) Academy ultimately chose the Friars over Marquette, Maryland, and UConn. He also received offers from Texas A&M, Penn State, Xavier, Virginia Tech, Washington, Georgia Tech, Nebraska, Wake Forest, and others.
Mulready is the first prospect to commit to Ed Cooley in the 2024 class. He ranks as the No. 85 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus — the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies (ESPN, 247Sports, Rivals, On3).
Mulready on his commitment to Providence
“I see Coach Cooley as an amazing coach, which is why he won the coach of the year award last year,” said Mulready/ “But I also look at him as family, someone I can trust as a player and somebody I know will take care of me on and off the court. He’s been recruiting me consistently for months and we’ve built a very strong relationship with each other. The rest of the coaching staff are wonderful, great hospitality, and they’re all joined in as a whole; no loose strings. Their recovery program is very advanced, as well as their trainer; he takes care of the players. The strength and condition coach is amazing, he knows exactly what everybody needs for their bodies and knows exactly how to get it done. It’s a great coincidence that it’s not too far from home. Lastly, the fans and supporters go crazy for this program; many people can agree.”
What Friar fans can expect
“I’m always playing at a high intensity,” Mulready says. “Nothing was given to me on this journey, so every day I’m trying to prove something. I can shoot, but it’s also hard to stop me when I’m going downhill. I love to facilitate and get my teammates going, but I also love playing defense. Might like playing defense more than offense. Extremely coachable and I’ve always been a leader, no matter how old I am. I’m also pretty good at rebounding the ball and always finding a way to get a loose ball or a ball in the air.”

Mulready’s message to the fans
“To the fans, y’all are definitely the most fun and energetic people I’ve witnessed at a game. I’m coming to win a national championship and I appreciate all the love I’ve been receiving🖤🤍.”
Scouting Summary
“Kayvaun Mulready is a strong guard,” On3’s Jamie Shaw writes. “He plays a powerful game with some explosion. Mulready is a very good defender. He plays with toughness and instincts, both on and off the ball. He is able to turn defense into offense quickly, especially in the passing lanes. Offensively, he plays in straight lines and attacks the paint. Would like to see him develop the jump shot and create some counters off the bounce in the half-court. Mulready is a good rebounder and has no issues sticking his nose in there and doing the tough guy stuff. There is some positional versatility. Mom played college basketball.”
