Providence commit Garwey Dual will not sign during early period

Providence commit Garwey Dual, a four-star recruit, will not sign during the early signing period which begins on November 9th and runs through the 16th.

The 6-foot-5 point guard playing with SoCal Academy in Castaic, California says he plans to instead sign during the late period in May.

Dual, a native of Carmel, Indiana, committed to the Friars in June, over the likes of NC State, Arizona State, TCU, VCU, and others. He ranks as the No. 61 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, the average ranking from all four major recruiting media companies. He’s also the No. 9 point guard nationally.

Dual on his commitment to Providence

“The reason I chose Providence is because the energy me, the staff, and players had off the rip,” Dual said in a commitment interview back in June. “Nothing was forced and they have a history of being able to help players become successful on and off the court, especially with their recent history with big guards like myself. All in all, I just felt like it was the best move for me!”

Scouting Summary

Garwey Dual is an intriguing prospect with a lot of tools. At 6-5, he is a long-armed paint-touch point guard, he has a lot of shift in his handle and very quick-twitch. Dual needs strength, which may help cut down his turnovers. His physical tools are advanced and he is still growing into the speed of the game. The jump shot is streaky, better off the bounce than the catch. He has a very shifty cross over and change of direction handle.
