Quarterback Isaac Wilson returning to Utah after entering NCAA transfer portal
Utah quarterback Isaac Wilson will return to the program, he announced via X on Monday night. Wilson previously announced his intention to leave via the NCAA transfer portal. A few days later, Wilson changed his mind and will continue to play for the Utes moving forward.
“Utah Man Am I!!!! Let’s run it back,” Wilson said.
Per the On3 Transfer Portal Industry Rankings, Wilson was the No. 189 ranked player to enter during the cycle. Looking specifically at quarterback, he was at No. 23. His name will soon be out of the portal following this announcement.
Wilson just wrapped up his true freshman season, seeing a good chunk of playing time. He threw for 1,510 yards, 10 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions in nine appearances. An injury was present throughout most of the year, something head coach Kyle Whittingham mentioned ahead of the in-state rivalry showdown against BYU.
“He’s been pretty banged up this year,” Whittingham said. “He’s a tough kid and wants to be out there. So, if you’re out there, you’ve got to play him.”
He wound up missing the BYU game before returning to face Colorado and Iowa State. The hope moving forward is that Wilson can stay healthy for the entire season.

Wilson played high school football at Draper (UT) Corner Canyon, where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 264 overall recruit in the 2024 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
The quarterback position has seen a few departures for Utah, even with Wilson’s return. Sam Huard and Brandon Rose are both still in the transfer portal. Long-time starter Cam Rising is not expected to return for the 2025 season, ending his time with the Utes.
Wilson might wind up having a chance to be the team’s starter moving forward. At the very least, experience is there as Utah looks to bounceback from an underwhelming first year back in the Big 12.
