Quinn Ewers injury update: Longhorns QB status revealed on Texas vs. Mississippi State report
A historic moment is set to take place in Austin on Saturday when Mississippi State takes on Texas at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium. It’s the Longhorns’ first-ever SEC game, hoping to join the conference with a big result against the Bulldogs.
Two head coaches are going up against one another with some familiarity. Jeff Lebby was previously the Oklahoma offensive coordinator and went 1-1 against Texas. Steve Sarkisian is hoping for a game more similar to the 2022 Red River Shootout and 2023.
Before focusing on the game itself, there are some injuries both teams are dealing with. The first availability report was released on Wednesday, with multiple names popping up on both sides.

Quarterback decision biggest storyline for Texas
Ever since Quinn Ewers sustained his injury, Sarkisian has maintained the quarterback would be listed as questionable. That quickly turned into him not playing against Louisiana-Monroe, ceding to Arch Manning for his first start on the 40 Acres.

Sarkisian likely will not make a decision until later in the week but already knows what he is looking for from Ewers. If he cannot check every box, Manning will get to play against Mississippi State.
“He’s got to do enough to show me he can play,” Sarkisian said on Monday. “I know that’s probably not the answer you wanted, but that’s what I mean. We’ve got a game plan. Can he execute the game plan? I hate to pare it down to that but that’s really the truth. I want to make sure he’s healthy enough to play at a high level. Can he go operate the game plan we have in place for him?
“That’s why I need to see how he responds from today’s work, and then what it looks like on a Tuesday then a Wednesday, which are pretty heavy days for him. Then, how he rebounds on a Thursday, so on and so forth.”
