Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian lists Texas QB as 'questionable'
Texas Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian shared an injury update on quarterback Quinn Ewers, explaining that he would currently be listed as questionable.
This comes after Quinn Ewers suffered a non-contact abdominal injury in the team’s win against UTSA in Week 3. That then sidelined him for the Longhorns’ win over ULM last week, with Arch Manning starting at quarterback in his place.
“Quinn practiced today,” Steve Sarkisian said. “If I had to put a report out, he’d be questionable for Saturday.”
Next week, the Texas Longhorns are opening SEC play with their first-ever game in the conference against Mississippi State. That’s a game that Sarkisian would naturally prefer to have his starting quarterback return for. However, if Ewers is once again unable to go, then the Longhorns are confident in Manning.

Quinn Ewers is widely regarded as one of the best quarterbacks in all of college football and is widely seen as a prospect for the 2025 NFL Draft. However, injuries have become a concern for the star signal caller. He missed time in both 2022 and 2023 before suffering the abdominal strain this season.
Still, when he’s been on the field, Quinn Ewers has put up some massive numbers. In three games this season, with Ewers getting injured in the third, he’s completed 73.4 percent of his passes for 691 yards and eight touchdowns.
Given how talented Arch Manning is, the injury for Quinn Ewers has created an interesting dynamic in the Texas quarterback locker room for Steve Sarkisian to navigate. It’s a debate that former head coach Nick Saban recently shared his thoughts on.
“I think what [Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian] did in the press conference yesterday sort of sent the message loud and clear that we have a championship-caliber team and have an opportunity to maybe do something special with this team and Quinn Ewers is the quarterback. And I think that’s probably the way it should be. Arch is a very talented guy. He played great in the spring game. He played really well when he had to come in the game last week,” Saban said.
“And I think that’s the key to it. Because Quinn Ewers has a history of missing a few games in the last couple of years. So to have an adequate backup that can go in there and take advantage of the weapons you have on offense is really, really important. But if you sat around and asked the players on the team, like I always had a leadership group and I’d say, ‘Hey guys, who do you think the quarterback should be?’ They all know who the quarterback should be, and right now Quinn Ewers has been the guy that has the leadership, probably has the locker room.”
For now, it’s most important that Quinn Ewers gets healthy again so that he’s able to see the field at all. As of now, he remains questionable for this upcoming Saturday.
