Quinn Ewers recently reflected on his time at Ohio State, which was brief. But that Texas quarterback doesn’t hold any bad feelings or grudges sharing a room with CJ Stroud.

Stroud, who excelled as a rookie with the Houston Texans in 2023, was the starter but Ewers was a can’t-miss prospect. In the end, despite enrolling early and skipping his senior year of high school, Ewers didn’t see the field as the Buckeyes’ starting quarterback.

He transferred after the 2021 season and went back closer to home to play for the Longhorns.

“I mean, I learned a whole lot through coach (Ryan) Day,” Ewers said on RG3 and The Ones. “You know, that whole quarterback room, we had some good quarterbacks in that room. And just learning from them being like the new guy coming I mean, I came in the middle of fall camp up there. So that’s like all I knew. That’s what college football was for me, was just fall camp. So you know, going into that was definitely tough.

“And, you know, I learned a lot from CJ and how to prepare for games and whatnot, and it was just, it was a good experience, but at the end of the day, just wasn’t the right fit for me.”

Stroud spoke out about Ewers after he was drafted in 2023. It wasn’t necessarily a shot at Ewers or what he felt personally, it was more so about the situation he was put in by the Ohio State staff.

“How hard can I make it on myself to like, be better,” Stroud said on Beltway Boyz. “And Ohio State wasn’t going to be easy. I had another quarterback who came in and I knew I was gonna play early. So Justin (Fields) was a starter and I was the backup and the next year, they brought somebody else in Quinn Ewers, the Texan quarterback, was the No. 1 player, I think, ever ranked.

“They brought him the weekend of fall camp, which is training camp for us. And I kind of felt disrespected. I didn’t like that … They told me the day he came.”

Stroud said he didn’t know Ewers was coming to Ohio State until the latter showed up. Stroud didn’t even officially win the job yet.

But, when it was all said and done, Stroud had a successful career at Ohio State and Ewers ended up blossoming at Texas. Now, Ewers leads Texas into the SEC in what is likely his final collegiate season.

A Heisman contender, Ewers took valuable lessons from Ohio State but could end his career on top with a national title before going into the 2025 NFL Draft.
