A source close to Quinn Ewers tells On3 that 247Sports‘ deleted Instagram post about the Texas quarterback sitting the rest of 2024 to prepare for the NFL draft is false.

“It is absolutely not true,” the source said. He practiced with the team on Monday.

The Longhorns are coming off a 30-15 loss to Georgia on Saturday night. Ewers was replaced by Arch Manning in the second quarter but returned and played the entire second half. He finished 25 of 43 for 211 yards with two touchdowns and an interception.

“Quinn’s our starting quarterback,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said in his postgame press conference on Saturday night. “I appreciate the fact we’re fortunate enough to have a backup like Arch that could come into the game and provide a spark in some sense. At the end of the day, Quinn’s our starter. I think, like I said, we’ve got to do a better job around him. I think he would tell you he can play better, but we’ve got to coach better. Everybody’s got to be better for our offense to perform better.”

Ewers started the season on a tear, making a Heisman Trophy case but he suffered an oblique injury while throwing across his body and was replaced by Manning in Texas’ victory against UTSA on Sept. 14. Ewers returned for the Red River Rivalry, finishing 20 of 29 for 199 yards with a touchdown and interception.

A former Five-Star Plus+ recruit and the No. 1 prospect in the 2021 class started his career at Ohio State before transferring to Texas for the 2022 season. He led the Longhorns to a College Football Playoff berth in 2023 as he threw for 3,479 yards with 22 touchdowns and just six interceptions.

Multiple NFL draft analysts have Ewers going in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft. Texas is 6-1 on the season and 2-1 in the SEC. The Longhorns visit Vanderbilt this Saturday.
