Ohio State Rolls Akron in Week 1 | Recruit Reaction | Wiltfong Whiparound

Last week, Quinshon Judkins made his debut at Ohio State. After spending the last two years at Ole Miss, he took the field at The Shoe for the first time in the Buckeyes’ season opener against Akron.

It was a packed house on hand as the Buckeyes opened the year with a 52-6 victory, and Judkins even said he didn’t realize just how many fans would be there. He saw a stark difference from what he saw during his time at Ole Miss.

“A one-of-a-kind experience. Definitely a one-of-a-kind experience,” Judkins said. “Super excited. Definitely more fans than I expected, so it’s super fun.”

The type of crowd at Ohio State was different than the ones he saw at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. In fact, he said what he saw Saturday was an atmosphere he experienced on the road over the last two years.

“Over 100,000 (fans),” Judkins said of the attendance for Saturday’s game. “Being at Ole Miss, I only got to see that at away games.”

Quinshon Judkins is coming off back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons at Ole Miss before entering the transfer portal and committing to Ohio State. He took a team-high 13 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown as Ohio State cruised to the opening victory. He’s expected to share the backfield with TreVeyon Henderson this year, and he led the Buckeyes with 65 rushing yards in the effort.

Offensive coordinator Chip Kelly addressed the two running backs’ workload in the game, and he said he wanted both to get more carries. However, he pointed out the plan the staff has in place to make sure the running game is firing on all cylinders.

“43 and 40 would be better,” Kelly said when asked Tuesday about the split between Judkins and Henderson, “but I don’t think we’re going to get that many snaps in the game.

“[Running backs coach] Carlos [Locklyn] does a great job of just keeping those guys fresh and who’s in and who’s out. There wasn’t a set plan, but hopefully we run the ball a little bit more, and those numbers are up for both of those guys.”

Ohio State will now turn its attention to Western Michigan, meaning the Buckeyes will play at home once again. Kickoff for Saturday’s game is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on Big Ten Network.
