Raleek Brown is set to make his Arizona State debut Thursday night against Texas State, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. It will mark his first game with the Sun Devils after dealing with a hamstring injury.

Brown arrives in Tempe from USC, where he spent two years in the Trojans’ backfield. He appeared in 14 games as a freshman in 2022, but injuries held him to just three games in 2023 as he took a redshirt.

Brown took 42 carries for 227 yards and three touchdowns in 2022 before totaling just 16 yards in 2023. He is expected to have a big role in the Arizona State backfield as Kenny Dillingham settles in for his second year as head coach. After missing the first two games of the season, Raleek Brown returned to practice and will now get ready to suit up for the first time.

Arizona State is off to a 2-0 start to the season as the program enters its first season in the Big 12. Thursday night’s game against Texas State will mark the final non-conference tuneup before league play begins next week against Texas Tech.

The Sun Devils are coming off a big win last week against Mississippi State, defeating the Bulldogs 30-23. The running game was on full display, led by Cam Skattebo. He took 33 carries for 262 yards to lead the charge while quarterback Sam Leavitt ran for 68 yards and two touchdowns to go with 69 passing yards.

It was quite the showing for Skattebo, who ran in the 39-yard touchdown to seal the Arizona State victory. Afterward, he spoke about what it meant to have such a performance.

“Today was fun,” Skattebo said, via the AP. “That’s the most fun I’ve had in a football game in a long time. We had our ups and downs, but that was fun. You can ask these guys up front. Bullying dudes, grown men, who are 300 pounds, that’s fun to us.”

Leavitt, however, struggled in the passing game. He completed just 10 of 20 passes in the victory, and Dillingham took the fall for it afterward. He said he could’ve balanced the play-calling better even though Mississippi State struggled mightily against the run.

“I did a bad job,” Dillingham said, via Arizona Sports’ Damon Allred. “I’m over there telling coach Arroyo, ‘Keep running it, they can’t stop it,’ and that’s the head coach side of me. But I’m forgetting that I ruined everything with the quarterback’s rhythm. That was a bad job by me, I should’ve just let him kinda go with the flow and let him call the game how he was calling it.”
