Recruiting update for four-star Jamari McDowell
Jamari McDowell solidified his four-star ranking with the Houston Defenders this summer. He was the leading scorer for the team that won the UAA Next Circuit.
McDowell averaged 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.1 steals through 19 circuit games. He is the 2023 On3 Consensus No. 85 ranked player.
The 6-foot-5 wing from Manvel (TX) High announced his final list of four on September 1; Kansas, Wake Forest, Texas A&M, and Xavier.
He will make his college announcement on September 24.
McDowell’s recruitment
McDowell is visiting Wake Forest this upcoming weekend, his second official visit to the Demon Deacons. He will take a second official visit to Texas A&M on September 16.
He took official visits to each of the schools in his final four; Texas A&M (7/28), Kansas (8/26), and Xavier (6/27).
In McDowell’s words
“I want to play for a good coach,” McDowell told On3. “I’m looking closely at the school’s resources, their NIL, and where they see me fitting in on the team.
“All of these schools made my list because of opportunity, their style of play, and the way they made my family feel.”

Thoughts and intel
Jamari McDowell did his homework and was very open throughout the process with each of the schools.
After visits to all four, intel suggests Texas A&M and Wake Forest are the two programs with the most confidence. Texas A&M is the local school, only two hours from his home in Manvel, Texas. Assistant Coach Lyle Wolfe did a good job building the relationship, and McDowell liked the future role he was presented with while on the visit. As things stand the Aggies will get the last visit.
McDowell set a second official visit with Wake Forest. Only a couple of weeks before his decision. McDowell spoke highly about his relationship with the coaching staff. In talking with him after the first visit, McDowell loved the vibes of the program.
With the four-star setting a second official visit to Wake Forest, they appear to be the program in the driver’s seat as of pressing ‘publish’ on this article. Not just because of the second visit, Texas A&M has one too, there is currently some momentum behind Steve Forbes‘ group.
That said, listen to the intel coming out of this weekend’s visit. McDowell will end the Texas A&M visit six days before his commitment date. A lot can happen in those six days.
