Reggie Bush

Reggie Bush is one of the most accomplished college football players in recent memory. The former USC star recently got his Heisman Trophy back and did nothing but win while in Los Angeles. However, since leaving for the NFL, Bush has not gotten back involved with the college game.

He appears to have a desire to change that, potentially working as a coach. Bush recently revealed he interviewed for the Sacramento State head coaching job. It would have been his first time ever working as a coach.

“I actually spoke to some people over at Sacramento State for the head coaching job when that came up,” Bush said via the Sporting Tribune. “I spoke to some people over there about coaching and it’s definitely something that I want to do.

The Hornets have been a consistent program in recent times, making the FCS Playoffs on four occasions since 2019. But the 2024 season was not kind to them, finishing with a 3-9 season. Andy Thompson was fired but quickly found another job of his own, working at Stanford as the AHC, co-DC, and inside linebackers coach.

Sacramento State eventually hired UNLV offensive coordinator Brennan Marion. Another former player, Michael Vick, was reportedly interviewed for the job as well. If Bush is going to get his coaching career started, it will have to be elsewhere.

Ultimately, the goal for Bush is to get back to USC and take over the program. He pointed to the success Kirby Smart has had at his alma mater, winning Georgia two national championships. And now, the Bulldogs are one of the more consistent programs in college football.

Bush wants to deliver something similar for USC and believes he is capable of doing so.

“The same way Kirby Smart, a former player from Georgia, came back to coach his team to a title, I would love to do that as well at USC,” Busch said. “I think that’d be a tremendous story, a tremendous comeback story. I think I have what it takes. I got the passion. And a lot of these kids grew up watching our era and watching our teams.”

For now, there is no coaching job lined up ahead of the 2025 season for Bush. The goal is to certainly get there one day and potentially bring USC back to glory.
