Regional hosts announced for 2022 NCAA Baseball Tournament
Following an entertaining regular season and several exciting finishes to conference tournaments this weekend, the Regional hosts for the 2022 NCAA Baseball Tournament are set. Regionals are set to take place June 3-6 across 16 sites with the winner advancing to one of eight Super Regionals.
Each Regional consists of four teams who will compete in a double-elimination tournament with the last team standing advancing to the next round. While the exact seeds of the teams are not yet known, the committee has announced the list of 16 teams. They will have the inside track to those Super Regional series and will be favored to make the College World Series field of eight in Omaha.
The Super Regionals are a best-of-three series between two Regional winners. Then, as the College World Series begins, the double-elimination format resumes to produce two teams which play another best-of-three series for the national championship. Last year’s winner was Mississippi State, but the Bulldogs finished just 26-30 this season and missed the tournament. That will open the door for a new champion to be crowned once the College World Series begins on June 16.
