Reid Mikeska commits to Miami: 'The U is coming back'
On the recruiting trail, second chances are key. Reid Mikeska is making the most of his.
Mikeska, a top-30 tight end on the On3 Consensus, capitalized on his second chapter in his recruitment with a commitment to Miami. The Hurricanes edged out Oklahoma for the three-star standout pass-catcher from Cypress (Texas) Bridgeland, who has a conviction about the program under Mario Cristobal after two visits to campus, including his official visit last weekend.
“It just feels like the energy overall, everybody wants to be there. Everybody knows ‘The U’ is coming back, and that this season and the following seasons are going to be different and I think that’s really exciting,” Mikeska told On3.
“Coach Cristobal has put together a pretty legendary staff, from Alonzo Highsmith to Jason Taylor and Ed Reed. You’re being coached by literal Hall of Famers and guys like Jimmy Graham come by practice all the time and help coach.”
Players like Graham and Greg Olsen are two of the legendary figures that the three-star tight end grew up idolizing at Miami. Cristobal, a native of the area, emphasized that over the past few months as the Hurricanes heavily pursued the former Clemson verbal.
“What really intrigued me about Miami is that it’s ‘Tight End U.’ Coach Field and Coach Cristobal were recruiting me super hard, and I took my first visit there and really loved it. When I took my second visit, I knew this is where I want to go,” Mikeska detailed.

“The coaching staff is amazing. We had a meeting with Coach (Josh) Gattis on how they plan to use tight ends and it was really eye-opening on how he gets them involved. It’s just really creative. They can really develop me and make me into what I want to be.
“It was really just being around the staff, being around Cristobal, seeing how they use tight ends, seeing the facilities and the plans for the new ones. It really shows how much the university trusts Cristobal with how much they’re putting into the program. I think they’re going to be a national championship team in the next couple of years and that’s something I want to be part of.”
Mikeska is the No. 29-ranked tight end according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
