John Andrzejek has spent the past two seasons on staff at Florida. Now, with his work there, he’ll be getting his first opportunity as a head coach.

Per Jeff Goodman at The Field of 68, Campbell will be hiring Andrzejek as their next head coach. The Camels have since made that news official this morning with a release announcing his hire with him coming to Buies Creek at the conclusion of the Gators’ run in the NCAA Tournament.

“I am beyond excited to welcome John Andrzejek to Campbell as our next head men’s basketball coach,” AD Hannah Bazemore said in the release. “John is one of the brightest rising stars in college basketball. His tireless work ethic, proven approach to the game and recruiting, and ability to connect with student-athletes, campus, and the entire Campbell community make him the perfect leader to elevate our program to the next level.”

Andrzejek also had a statement in the release. The new head coach expressed his excitement to bring success with him from Florida.

“It is an unbelievable honor to be named the head men’s basketball coach at Campbell University. I’m extremely grateful to President Creed, Hannah Bazemore, and Justin Wilkins for allowing me this opportunity. I look forward to serving this institution and its visionary administration including incoming President Downs,” Andrzejek said in the release. “Campbell is a dynamic institution that’s growing in tremendous ways and I’m eager to be a part of our wonderful campus and community. I look forward to getting to work on bringing championships to The Creek. Roll Humps!”

Andrzejek, one of the top young coaches in the sport, has been a part of the development of Florida under Todd Golden. The last two seasons have been their best in Gainesville as the Gators are 54-16 (.771) in that span, including 30-4 (.882) this season in one of their best in school history after winning the SEC Tournament and earning a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Prior to this, Andrzejek also had assistant roles at Washington State, Dartmouth, and Johns Hopkins. That’s after being a director of basketball operations at San Francisco, with connections to Kyle Smith as well as Golden, and a director of basketball operations and student manager at his alma mater, where he also had connections to Golden, at Columbia.

This comes 11 days after Campbell fired Kevin McGeehan (.480) after a dozen seasons as head coach. Five of those records were winning ones but the last three were losing finishes for the Camels.

Andrzejek will hope that he isn’t there for another three weeks as Florida tries to win a national title. Once their season concludes, though, is when he’ll head to Campbell in the next stop of his career.
