Duke quarterback transfer Maalik Murphy commits to Oregon State
Duke quarterback transfer Maalik Murphy has committed to Oregon State, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. Murphy was a surprise entrance into the NCAA transfer portal, leaving Durham after just one season after starting his career with Texas.
This is the second consecutive offseason Murphy went through the transfer process. He joined Duke and Manny Diaz for a starting opportunity and took full advantage. Murphy threw for 2,933 yards and 26 touchdowns. Both of those are Duke school records. Twelve interceptions find itself on the stat sheet as well for Murphy.
“I’ve got a ton of respect for Maalik Murphy,” Diaz said on Murphy’s transfer. “Our story as a program, it doesn’t happen this way without Maalik. He’s been everything we could have hoped for and more in his time with us. I’m excited for him and his future and I’m glad we were part of each other’s story.”

When Steve Sarkisian took over in Austin, Murphy was one of the first players to commit to the program. He spent his true freshman season as a reserve before being the official backup for Quinn Ewers in 2023. When Ewers went down with an injury, Murphy made two starts and kept Texas alive in the Big 12 and College Football Playoff hunt.
