Florida State forward Jamir Watkins is considering the following programs in the transfer portal, per Jon Rothstein: St. John’s, Michigan, Florida State, Oregon, Kansas State and Cincinnati. Watkins is the No. 1 player still available in the transfer portal, per On3’s Transfer Portal Player Rankings.

Watkins withdrew from the 2024 NBA Draft on May 30 only minutes before the midnight deadline. Now, Watkins will have a chance to boost his NBA stock further with one more season at the collegiate level.

In the 2023-24 season, Watkins averaged a team-high 15.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 45.7% from the field and 34.4% from beyond the arc. Watkins was also a significant threat on defense, averaging 1.9 steals per outing.

Watkins’ best game of the season came against Virginia Tech in the second round of the ACC Tournament. The 6-foot-7 forward scored a career-high 34 points while tallying 11 rebounds and four steals.

For his efforts, Watkins was named an All-ACC Honorable Mention by the ACC Coaches and a Blue Ribbon media panel. Watkins’ standout season with Florida State was his only year with the program.

Watkins began his career at VCU, where he spent three seasons. However, Watkins redshirted during his second year with the team after suffering a season-ending knee injury before the season.

Florida State finished this past season with a 17-16 overall record and a 10-10 mark in conference play, placing eighth in the ACC. The team did not make the NCAA Tournament. While it was not a soaring success of a season, it was a step forward for the Seminoles after going 9-23 in the 2022-23 season.

Jamir Watkins played high school basketball at Trenton Catholic School (NJ), where he was an unranked prospect in the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Watkins is one of eight Florida State players who entered the transfer portal after the season concluded. He is the only player who has not committed to a new program yet. To soften the blow of its losses, Florida State added Jerry Deng (Hampton), Bostyn Holt (South Dakota) and Justin Thomas (UTSA) via the portal.
