Former Georgetown and Virginia transfer guard Dante Harris has found a new home in the portal. The Memphis Tigers added him in the middle of the college basketball season, according to Jason Munz of The Memphis News.

He’d been practicing with the Virginia basketball team this fall, but was not listed on the Cavaliers’ roster for the past few months.

Since he hasn’t played in a game at all this season for UVA, Harris will be immediately eligible for the Memphis Tigers. According to Parth Upadhyaya, he’s been in Memphis practicing with the Tigers multiple days this week. The former Georgetown star is also currently enrolled with the University, according to their online student directory.

Harris averaged 2.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 1.4 assists for UVA in the 2023-2024 season, after an impressive 2022-23 season at Georgetown. He played in 24 games for the Cavaliers, including one start. Harris missed 10 games for Virginia while battling an ankle injury. He averaged 11.9 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 4.1 assists at Georgetown, before entering the portal and joining Tony Bennett’s group.

In the 2021-2022 season for the Hoyas, he tallied a career-high 23 points against the Creighton Blue Jays on Feb. 14. Harris also led the team in assists (118) and ranked second on the team with 44 steals.

As a freshman, he earned the Dave Gavitt Trophy as the Most Outstanding Player of the Big East Tournament, after he averaged 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in four games.

Dante Harris played his high school basketball at Lakeway Christian Academy, where he played for Virginia legend Curtis Staples. His junior season for Lakeway, he averaged 30.6 points per game and 9.0 assists per game. Before transferring to Lakeway Christian, he played two seasons at Alcoa. Harris finished as a TSSAA Mr. Basketball Finalist for Division II-A in Tennessee.
