Report: Former Temple player being investigated for alleged point-shaving scandal
Hysier Miller is reportedly under federal investigation for affecting the outcomes of games while playing college basketball at Temple.
ESPN’s Pete Thamel released the report in an article on Thursday.
“Federal authorities are investigating whether former Temple men’s basketball player Hysier Miller bet on his own games and manipulated the outcome of Owls games he played in, according to sources with direct knowledge of the situation,” Thamel wrote.
The NCAA didn’t comment on the matter nor did the FBI confirm that an investigation is taking place regarding Miller. However, Temple, as well as Jason P. Bologna, Miller’s representation at the law firm of Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, did provide statements in the story by Thamel.
Temple was under review in an inquiry due to suspicious gambling activity involving games for the Owls. The specific one in question was between Temple and UAB in one of the final games of the regular season on March 7th, 2024. Books noticed and alerted authorities of the line movement, which resulted from action that took the Blazers from a two-point favorite to an eight-point one, during the course of the day before betting on that game was paused.
Miller had spent the past three seasons at Temple where he appeared in 91 games, including being a full-time starter over the past two. In those outings, he averaged 10.6 points, 3.3 assists, three rebounds, and 1.2 steals. That included his career-best year last season with averages of 15.9 points, four assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals.

In that game between the Owls and Blazers, Miller had one of his worst outings of the season with eight points on three-for-nine shooting with no assists, no steals, and three turnovers.
After that, Miller entered the portal this offseason and transferred to Virginia Tech. Just over a month ago, though, the Hokies dismissed him from the roster in connection to this investigation.
More will still be to come regarding this apparent investigation into Miller. For now, though, the former college guard is facing some serious allegations regarding what may have taken place toward the end of his career in Philly.
