Report: Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins cancels upcoming visit to LSU, focusing on Kansas State
Coleman Hawkins has reportedly made a change to the upcoming schedule in his recruitment. That has left one program now in the lead for his services out of the transfer portal.
Per a source for Jon Rothstein, Hawkins will no longer be visiting LSU. With nothing else set for him as of now, Kansas State has now seemingly taken the lead for him.
“Sources: Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins has cancelled his upcoming visit to LSU,” Rothstein wrote on Twitter. “No other visits are scheduled. Hawkins visited Kansas State last weekend and the Wildcats have emerged as the favorite to land the talented forward.”
Per On3’s Joe Tipton, Hawkins was going to visit the Tigers in Baton Rouge on June 17th. It would have come after he visited the Wildcats in Manhattan last weekend. It is also the second visit that he has cancelled this month after originally planning on checking out Louisville.
Hawkins spent the last four seasons at Illinois. In 126 games with the Fighting Illini, he has averaged 7.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and a pair of assists while shooting 44.2% from the field. That included a career year as a senior in Champaign this past season where he posted 12.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.5 steals, and 1.1 blocks while shooting 45.1% overall and 36.9% from three.
Hawkins would have been a welcome addition for the Tigers as the top available player left in the portal. That’s per On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players where he rates as the No. 17 transfer and No. 2 PF behind only Great Osobor (Washington).

Still, LSU will bring in what’s currently almost a Top-10 class in the portal with their trio of additions. They’ve brought in Cam Carter (Kansas State), Jordan Sears (UTSA), and Dji Bailey (Richmond) so far this offseason under Matt McMahon.

UPDATE: Coleman Hawkins commits to Kansas State
After cancelling his visit to LSU earlier on Friday, Coleman Hawkins has already decided on his new home by committing to Kansas State.
Hawkins has made the choice official with a post on social media.
Shams Charania first reported the decision in a tweet regarding the news of Hawkins’ commitment to KSU. In doing so, he also noted that the Wildcats opened up their checkbooks to secure this late addition.
“Sources: Illinois transfer Coleman Hawkins has committed to play for Kansas State in what’s believed to be the most lucrative college basketball NIL deal ($2 million) negotiated from a collective by Nate Conley of Court XIV and Aaron Turner of Verus Basketball,” Charania tweeted.
