Report: Michael Vick in discussion as next head coach of Sacramento State
Michael Vick is suddenly a coaching candidate for at least two jobs in college football.
Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Vick is in talks as an option as the next head coach at Sacramento State.
“Sacramento State is in discussions to hire former Pro-Bowl QB Mike Vick as its new head coach, per sources,” Schefter tweeted this afternoon. “Sacramento State plans to move up to FBS, is building a new stadium and has over $50 million in NIL. Sacramento State would build an experienced coaching staff around Vick that is inline with the new frontier of college football.”

This comes hours after Vick’s name came up in the coaching search at Norfolk State too.
Vick is currently an analyst for the NFL at FOX as he has been with the network since 2017.
As for coaching, though, Vick does not have any official experience on a sideline.
As a player, Vick is well-known from his collegiate career at Virginia Tech and his 13 seasons in the NFL with the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers. In Blacksburg, Vick led the Hokies to a record of 22-2, including a being a Heisman finalist before an appearance in the national championship in 1999, before being the No. 1 pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. Then, as a pro, Vick would put up over 28,500 yards overall with 169 total touchdowns while with the four franchises, including being a six-time selection to the Pro Bowl.
The Hornets are in search of a new head coach after Andy Thompson stepped down for a job at Stanford. The Spartans are considering candidates too after firing Dawson Odums after four seasons.
Vick went from notable name in the sport to potential college hire over the course of Monday. It’s now a question of if he ends up taking one of these jobs at Sacramento State or Norfolk State.
